Twist the Plot to Power-Up Multi-Generational Marketing Strategies

In today’s vibrant and diverse digital marketing ecosystem, understanding and engaging with multiple generations is more crucial than ever.

But is it only about Facebook and cell phones?

Why not twist the plot to your marketing strategy to include the unexpected – traditional marketing strategies and tactics – and zig while your competitors are zagging. 💡

Here’s what’s working by generation:

🔹 Boomers

Forget about the discounts. Boomers have accumulated $15 trillion in financial assets, and they intend to use them - largely to splurge on themselves during retirement and semi-retirement. Think upsells, premium tiers, concierge services – and deliver via TV or national print ads.

And OBTW – this crowd accounts for 50% of all consumer expenditures – but marketers are only spending 10% of their budgets to reach them according to Wordstream. Sounds like opportunity!

🔹 Gen X

Direct mail works with this crowd…86% sort through their mail every day and 68% have used coupons received in the mail. They are likely to be receiving paper bills (think inserts).

🔹 Millenials

Radio and podcast commercials work well with this generation. 93% of millennials report listening to the radio for about 11 hours per week – more than the previous generations. Podcasts are nearly as popular as Netflix. Reach a local or national market of millennials through these channels.

🔹 Gen Z

Gen Z’s are adept at filtering out digital content to zero-in on content that aligns with their personal beliefs and values and/or supports social causes. Exploring traditional marketing partnerships with social cause organizations may be your ticket past their filter.
