With so many forms of digital content and channels available to reach your target market, it’s never been more important to have a disciplined approach to testing various content forms and channels rather than jumping into the hottest new hack.

If your product is targeted to specific demographic age groups by all means, party-on with the content form, channels and messaging proven to resonate most with them.

But if your mission is to reach across multiple generations, there are starting points for the content forms that tend to work across the board.

Here’s what’s working across generations:

1. Video -
This isn’t new news, but the numbers are compelling. According to NP Digital:
  • Video is expected to make up 80% of all online traffic in 2025
  • It can increase conversions up to 80%
  • Generates up to 1200% more shares than copy and text images combined
Plus, it works across all channels from email to social media

2. Social Shopping –
This is the top channel where businesses are investing, so be sure your stores are optimized and that the click through from your post is frictionless.

3. Influencers –

Ok, for everyone but the Boomers. And if you go this way, find influencers that match the demographic group for credibility. Micro influencers with a dedicated and loyal following are likely to perform better for you than celebrity influencers with a huge but diverse following.

4. Nostalgia marketing –

Use retro-themes to make emotional touchpoints from the past for each age group relevant to your brand today.

5. Interactive content –

This generates 52.6% higher engagement rates than static content. Plus, each age group responds to different types of interactive content from live streams and challenges for Gen Z to interactive tools for the Boomers.
